| The Plain City Arts Council
was formed to promote the arts in our town. If you have ideas about anything
that could be happening to enrich Plain City cultural life, whether it's
remembering our rich Pioneer heritage, enjoying today's cultural arts
events, or planning for a brighter cultural environment for tomorrow,
we'd like to hear from you. We meet at the Plain City Senior Center each

| Auditions for Harvest Arts Festival Play This year, the Plain City Arts Council has added something new to their annual Harvest Arts Festival. They will be presenting a play, “Once Upon a Mattress”. The play will run for 3 shows, evening performances on September 17th and 18th and a matinee on the 18th. Auditions will be held July 13th and 14th from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Plain City Senior Center, 4160 W. 2200 N. in Plain City. All roles are open to performers 16 years and older. There are roles available for older adults as well. Those planning to audition should prepare 16-32 bars of an upbeat Broadway show tune. An accompanist and CD player will be provided. Please no A capella auditions. Rehearsals will begin Saturday, July 31st and will be Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30-9:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:00-Noon. Further details are available at plaincityutah.org. Main roles are as follows: Minstrel: Male tenor, 25-35 years old. A musician and narrator of the story; musical instrumental ability is a plus. Princess Winnifred: Female mezzo soprano, 18-28 years old. Strong and independent; not your typical princess. Prince Dauntless: Male tenor, 18-28 years old. Weak and naïve; a pushover. Lady Larkin: Female soprano, 18-25 years old. Pretty, but not too bright. Sir Harry: Male tenor. 18-25 years old. Handsome; a chivalrous knight, sort of. The Queen: Female mezzo soprano, 40-60 years old. Loud and abrasive. King Sextimus: Male, non-singing. 40-60 years old. Does not talk until the end of the show; must pantomime most of the show. Dirty old man. Jester: Male tenor. 16-25 years old. Strong dancing and vocals. Other ensemble and supporting roles are also available. Orchestra parts are also available. They include 1 flute, 1 oboe, 1 clarinet, 1 bass clarinet, 1 horn, 2 trumpets, 1 trombone, 1 guitar (acoustic with amp), 1 percussion, 1 piano, 1 harp, 2 violins, 1 viola, 1 cello, and 1 bass. |
