Planning & Zoning

Overview

This Department serves as the staff to the city’s Planning Commission.  It is our duty to promptly present well and thoroughly analyzed cases to these appointed decision makers.  The applicants deserve complete assessment of their proposals and the public needs good information so as to be able to provide their input to the city’s appointees.

As planners, it is our job to implement the plans and codes as adopted by the City Council.  It is also our responsibility to bring forward the best concepts of current planning practice to present to the law makers to create plans and procedures to maintain our neighborhoods and commercial districts.  We need to ensure that this community is one where properties and places are such that their livability is enhanced over time and new development provides lasting value.
